Your guild can fight in a single province, or all of them. White areas indicate territory which is owned by NPCs, in which player guilds have yet to expand. In the image below, you can see your own guild's area of influence highlighted in green, with enemy territory shown in red. The GvG continent map allows you to see a quick overview of your guild's influence in different provinces and also serves as the entry point into those provinces, where your guild will do battle. The map is split up into provinces, which you can see are separated by rivers and mountain borders.

And absolutely no one who understands the game cares about ranking points. Bragging rights that 95% of players will care nothing about are worthless. Bragging rights is all you can expect to get, but only 5% (or less, by now) of active players actually play GvG. And GvG provides no actual personal benefit other than ranking points from battles, and ranking points are immaterial to playing the game. Really, the benefits to being in a guild have almost nothing to do with the guild's level, but rather with the caliber of players in that guild.

The people who benefit most from getting troops slightly faster are the GvG players, because they're about the only ones who are going to burn through them fast enough for it to matter. The training time is mildly helpful, but again, with many players using Alcatraz for troops, you have plenty to spare for most purposes, so making them faster is not a very big deal. The reduction in building costs is irrelevant, because many players rely on GBs and event/special buildings for their resource income rather than regular Build menu buildings, not to mention that once you're established in the game your coins/supplies totals will be plenty for any building you wish to have in your city.

One event building can provide as many FP as the highest guild level will. Due to power creep with the flood of event buildings, guild level benefits are mostly inconsequential.
